A peanut butter and jelly sandwich is the ultimate school lunchbox staple. More than that, PB&J is simple, quick to prepare on a busy morning, and something you know your child will enjoy.
Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches don’t have to be limited to smooth peanut butter and strawberry jelly on bread. There are endless creative combinations that will keep your kids interested in their lunch and eating a wide variety of nutritious foods. Here are three new twists on the classic PB&J sandwich that are still simple, quick to make, and delicious.
- Sliced Apple, Almond Butter and Apple Butter: The crisp apple slices give the sandwich a nice bite while the almond butter is salty and creamy. Apple butter adds a nice cinnamon kick.
- Honey, Sunflower Seed Butter and Banana: Sunflower seed butter is a great alternative for children with nut allergies. Honey adds a natural sweetness and the sliced bananas are a perfect creamy addition.
- Peanut Butter, Jelly, Carrot Ribbons and Raisins: A couple of simple toppings, like raisins and carrot ribbons, makes the classic PB&J not only more exciting, but more nutritious as well.
