Celebrate Arbor Day
The idea behind Arbor Day is a simple one. Set aside one day to plant a tree. But you can do more than that.
There are plenty of ways to get your entire community involved in celebrating our tall, leafy friends. Here are a few ideas from the Arbor Day Foundation:
- Organize a beautification project: Spend some time making a public space more beautiful with your neighbors. Have a team pick up trash while another trims flowers and trees. Another team can paint or stain benches.
- Take a tree identification hike: Take a group walk through the neighborhood and try to identify as many types of trees as you can. Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts can act as guides.
- Hold a block party: Serve food and drinks, enjoy time together outdoors, and brainstorm ideas for beautification projects throughout the year with your neighbors. Maybe think of projects that can be accomplished with the changing seasons.
- Volunteer: If helping an already-organized effort is more your speed, go to arbordaynow.org and look for an opportunity near you.
How do you celebrate Arbor Day?
