How to: lampshade makeovers
You have: a standard lampshade. You want: a bespoke design statement that looks like a million bucks. Solution? Hit the craft store and break out that hot glue gun!
To add a little extra pizazz to any room, I love to create customized lampshades. And the best part is that my children can be part of the process. My daughter and I had a wonderful time decorating the lampshade in her bedroom. Here are some things to keep in mind:
- Purchase an inexpensive glass lamp base and a plain white shade (I get mine from Lowes)
- Take into consideration the room’s color scheme. My daughter’s bedroom is pink and blue, so we bought coordinating flowers and jewels to adorn her new lamp.
- Be careful handling the hot glue gun. My daughter picked out the petal placements, and I glued to her specifications until her new lamp was perfect for her.
This was an inexpensive, fun, and empowering project that allowed my daughter to be the decision-maker.
